The "Job-jar" is just a place to advertize for some
of the jobs that need doing in the club. The club's strength is
the members who put in a little of their own time to make a lot
of little things happen. There's a lot of individual reasons for
people volunteering their time, but here's a few: "Things
get done the way they should be." "You get to know and
work with some great people." "I just started doing it
and people started thanking me."
Here's what's in the Job-jar right now:
- Newsletter Editor: Use word processing software to make changes to the existing
newsletter in preparation for a new tennis year. Get copied in time for registration
day in March.
- Odd Job Helper: Anything that would be little help - Buy refreshments or
order food for a tournament.
- Tournament Helpers: Help the Match Convenor - Make phone calls. Check lists.
Post signup sheets.
- Work on a team to help with running tournaments - there's a scheulde to
post, usually a few phone calls, maybe food and refreshments to buy, may need
someone to make a few advance publicity posters for our bulletin boards.
- Court Maintenance Help: Help Angelo Koichopolos (905-831-1717). He's the Court Maintenance director.
Spray the weeds and grass in and around the courts that grows up all the cracks.(?)
Paint the shed (?). Help sweep the courts or put up screens.
- Photographer: Create history. Create fun! Take pictures of events around
the club, tournament winners etc. Send to web-master for posting. Maybe even
get a poster or two made for the yearly dance. We have room for more than
one Photographer!
- New ideas: We need ideas about how things could be done better.
- Assist Membership Director: There are lots of small jobs - pick one or
two and have some fun working with some other tennis folks! Here's what we
do: Update our information folder and application forms, arrange for printing,
buy stamps, mail out info packges and forms in February lick lots of envelopes,
and stick lots of stamps), arrange for two walk-in registration sessions in
March (usually at the Pickering Recreation Centre), advertise date and time
of the walk-in registrations, make up publicity signs for the bulletin boards
at the Pickering Rec-Centre and our courts, receive mail-in registrations,
mail back newsletters and toe-tags, record the registrations in the database,
make up lists of people re lessons and leagues.
